Name of river: Ganges River.

Brief Descriptions:
- The Ganges is 1557 miles long (2506 km).
- The Ganges Valley, or basin, is 200 to 400 miles (322 to 644 km) wide.
- The river starts in an ice cave on the southern slopes of the Himalayas, some 10,300 feets (3,140 metres) above sea level.
- The delta begins more than 200 miles (323 km) from the Bay of Bengal and lies mostly in Bangladesh. It is largely a tangled swampland.
- There are two major dams on the Ganga. One at Hardwar diverts much of the Himalayan snowmelt into the Upper Ganges Canal, built by the british in 1854 ti irrigate the surrounding land. This caused for the decay of ganga as an island waterway.
- The other dam is serious hydroelectric affair at farakka, close to the point where the main flow of the river enters bangladesh, and the tributary hooghly (also know as bhagirathi) continues in westbengal past calcutta. This barrage, which feeds the hooghly branch of the river by a 26 mile long-lingering source on dispute with bangladesh.
- Sheer volume of waste-estimated at nearly 1 billions liters per day of mosly untreated raw sewage.
- Also, inadequate cremation procedures contributes to a large number of partially burnt or unburnt corpses floating down the ganga, not mention live stock corpses.
Two uses of the river:
- People bathe and wash clothing there
- Drink water from the river, they take the supply of water from the river as they think that it is very convenience.
Two problems of the river:
- Pollution of the river, they burry the ashes of bodies below the river and throw the ashes in
- Water has been ischarged into large quantities into the river

Name of River: Yangtze River

Source: http://www.wikipedia.org/

Brief Introduction of this River:

The Yangtze River is the longest river in China and Asia, and the third-longest in the world, after the Nile in Africa and the Amazon in South America. The river is about 6,385 km long (3915 mi) and flows from its source in Qinghai Province, eastwards into the East China Sea at Shanghai. It acts as a dividing line between North and South China, although geographers generally consider the Qinling-Huai River line to be the official line of geographical division. As the largest river in the region, the Yangtze is historically, culturally, and economically important to China. One of the dams on the river, the Three Gorges Dam, is the largest hydro-electric power station in the world.

Uses:

- Yangtze River is a major transportation artery for China.

- It has a hydro power station which provides eletricity for the people along the river.

Problems:

- Fengjie was first of a number of towns affected by the massive flood. People were affected badly.

- The Yangtze is very polluted in Hubei and people are unable to use the water for washing clothes.

Introduction: The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia and China, and the third-longest in the world, after the Nile in Africa and The Amazon in South America. The river is about 6,300 km long and flows from its source in Qinghai Province, eastwards into the East China Sea at Shanghai. It has traditionally been considered a dividing line between North and South China, although geographers consider the Qinling-Huai River line to be the official line of geographical division. As the largest river in the region, the Yangtze is historically, culturally, and economically important to China.

Uses
1)With the accomplishment of hydropower station of Sanxia, the hydroelectric resources will develop and utilize effectively in the Yangtze River.
2)It can irrigate farmland, basically all the farm near the river that make paddy can reap 2 to 3 time in a year.

Problem
1)Flood is a big problem with Yangtze River. Because almost every 10year will have a big flood in the Yangtze River. Up till now for flood china louse about a hundred billion Yuan and in 1931, Wu Han (a city near the Yangtze River) has a very big flood and causes so many people died from that flood

none View of the Mekong before sunset.
name of river: mekong river

introduction:
The Mekong River is one of the world’s major rivers. It is the world's 10th-longest river and the 7th-longest in Asia. . Its estimated length is 4,350 km (2,703 mi), and it drains an area of 795,000 km2 (307,000 sq mi).[1]
From the Tibetan Plateau this river runs through china's yunnan province, Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and vietnam. All these areas except China and Burma belong to the Mekong River Commission. The extreme seasonal variations in flow and the presence of rapids and waterfalls in this river have made navigation extremely difficult.

uses of Mekong river:
- tourist attraction
problem:
The Mekong River Commission, a panel of the region's nations, has accused China of blatantly disregarding the nations downstream in its plans to dam the river in an effort to stop the dams, but to no avail. Since the building of the first Chinese dam, many species have become endangered including the Mekong dolphin and manatee, water levels have dropped as ferries get stuck, fish caught are small and the catch is less than half of before the dam, the turnover at Chiang Rai port is less than 1/4 of previous years, and crossings from Chiang Rai to isolated Luang Prabang have lengthened from 8 hours to 2 days due to inadequate water levels.

Name of river : Mississippi River

Source:http://images.google.com.sg/imgres?imgurl=http://www.mapofmississippi.com/images/maps.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.mapofmississippi.com/map_of_mississippi.cfm&usg=__jYhXVKI50Oi54zP5XSDFgd-QyMI=&h=666&w=591&sz=118&hl=en&start=3&tbnid=-5rIJzHDwBjDZM:&tbnh=138&tbnw=122&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmississippi%2Briver%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX

Brief Description: One of the major rivers of North America, the Mississippi River has been a focal point in American history, commerce, agriculture, literature, and environmental awareness. The length of the Mississippi River from its source in Lake Itasca in northwestern Minnesota to its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico flows 2,348 miles; it is the second longest river in the United States behind the Missouri (2,466 miles). The Mississippi River system drains the agricultural plains between the Appalachian Mountains to the east and the Rocky Mountains to the west. This drainage basin (approximately 1,234,700 square miles) covers about 40 percent of the United States and ranks as the fifth largest in the world.

Two Uses of the river:

-The upper Mississippi traffic was predominantly composed of agricultural products such as wheat, corn, and soybeans.
-It became a major route of trade and commerce for the entire Mississippi Valley.

Two Problems of the river:

-Much of the Mississippi floodplain has been converted to agriculture. This change has two serious consequences for the Mississippi River. First, the loss of prairie wetlands and floodplain forest decreases the biodiversity of the region. Second, conversion of land to agriculture often leads to increased run off of fertilizers and pesticides. The presence of high rates of nitrogen and phosphorus can be directly attributed to farming practices in the Mississippi Valley.

-Industrial pollution is also a concern along the Mississippi River. Industries have contributed significant amounts of oil, aluminum, lead, and other industrial wastes such as sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and benzene to the flow of the Mississippi. At the turn of the twenty-first century, much of the river remained unswimmable and unfishable, despite the fact that it serves as the primary source of drinking water for 18 million people.

Name of river: Singapore River

Source: http://www.rivercruise.com.sg/merlionpic.htm and http://www1.moe.edu.sg/learn@/singaporerivertrail/pri/G258_Raffles_Girls'_Pri/past_cleanupofriver.htm

The source of Singapore River is at Queenstown, Ridout Road Estate and Tanglin Halt area near Margaret Drive. In the past, it uses to be a port in Singapore. Starting in 1880s, the rapid urbanization and expanding trade caused water pollution due disposal unwanted waste material into the river. In 1977, Lee Kuan Yew, the Prime Minister felt sorry about the state of the badly polluted Singapore River in public. This led to a concerted effort by the relevant authorities to clean up the river.

Use

1) This river is use as transportation for Tourism and boat to move across the river.

2) The river is part of the Marina Reservoir after damming the Singapore River at its outlet to the sea to create a new reservoir of freshwater.

3) The Singapore River shifted towards tourism and aesthetics as the boat travel across the rivers.

4) The bumboat rides have been well received by tourists and the locals.

Problems

1) When bum boats move across the river, it may cause pollution in the river by releasing oil like car on the road but release smoke.

2) As Tourism increase, more and more Tourism and locals want to travel the boat and the history may happen again in the past.

3) If Marina Bay is build, more people may think we should build tall buildings on water instead on land or ground.

4) We may create land in the sea or the Singapore River to build Tourism attraction.

Brief Description : The Amazon River(occasionally River Amazon; Spanish , Portuguese: R Amazonas) of South America is one of the longesttwo rivers on Earth , the Nile river in Africa , carrying more water than Mississipi , Nile and Yangtze river combined . It also has largest drainage area of any river system .

Source : http://schools-wikipedia.org/images/711/71149.jpg.htm

2 Uses Of The Amazon :

a . Drainage Area

The Amazon basin is the largest drainage basin in the world , covers and area of 40 % of South America . Its most remote sources are found on the inter - Andean plateau , just a short distance from the Pacific Ocean . . The area covered by water of the river and its tributaries more than triples over the course of a year . At its widest point of the Amazon river can be 11 km wide during the dry season , but during the rainy season when the Amazon floods the surrounding plains it can be up to 45 km . The Amazon is responsible for a fifth of the total volume of fresh water entering the oceans worldwide .

b . Cruising

They built luxuries and traditional cruises that takes visitors or foreigners along the Amazon River . In this way , people can get to know more about the Amazon River .

2 Problems Faced :

a . Flooding

Not all of the Amazon's tributaries flood at the same time of the year. Many branches begin flooding in November, and may continue to rise until June . The rise of the Rio Negro starts in February or March, and it also begins to recede in June. The Madeira rises and falls two months earlier than most of the rest of the Amazon . The average depth of the river in the height of the rainy season is 40 metres and the average width can be nearly 40 km . Smaller riverboats can reach 780 kilometres higher as far as Achual Point . Beyond that, small boats frequently ascend to the Pongo de Manseriche , just above Achual Point .

b . 20Th Century Concerns

Cattle farming became a major impetus in deforestation with military governments in the 1960s and 1970s heavily subsiding the creation of large ranches . By the 1980s , the rate of destruction of the rain forest was dizzying and it is estimated that over a fifth of the total area of the rain forest has now been clear cut . The preservation of the remaining forest is becoming an ever more prominent concern .

The construction of the new capital Brasilia in the interior 1960s also contributed to the opening up of the Amazon basin . A large scale colonization program solve families from north eastern Brazil relocated to the forest and encourage by promise of cheap land . Many settlements grew along the road from Brasilia Belem but rain forest soil prove difficult to cultivate .
